North Zone Inter University Women’s Championship 2016-17 commences at Amity University

North Zone Inter University Women’s Tennis Championship 2016-17, organised by Association of Indian Universities (AIU), commenced today at Amity University Campus, Sector-125, Noida. The finals of five day Championship will be played on January 20, 2017.

The Teams from Punjabi University, Patiala; Jamia Milia Islamia University;Punjab University Chandigarh and University of Delhi, being the top 4 Teams of last year’s Women’s Tennis Championship, will directly play the Quarter Finals.

Welcoming the participants, Prof. Kalpana Sharma- Director, Amity School of Physical Education and Sports Sciences (ASPESS) thanked AIU for entrusting the responsibility of hosting “North Zone Inter University Tennis Women Tournament”second year in a row at Amity Campus. Prof. Sharma welcomed all the participating students from 12 Universities and motivated them to give their best without thinking about winning or losing.

Declaring the Tournament open, Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla- Vice Chancellor, Amity University said that Sports is very important for ensuring the overall development of a student and Inter University Sports Events not only help in making students physically fit and agile but also help them in building long lasting friendships with players from different States of India. Prof. Shukla motivated the participants to play with the true spirit of sportsmanship and also requested the audience to encourage the players wholeheartedly by cheering for them during the matches.
